MCAS Success

For the past four years, Boston Renaissance Charter Public School has made significant gains on MCAS—Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System—in both English Language Arts and Math. Performance on the third grade MCAS has been particularly strong with BRCPS third graders outperforming the state in both reading and mathematics in 2009. This achievement is particularly significant as MCAS provides a common measure of student achievement across the state. All school districts in Massachusetts are expected to meet the specific academic goals set forth by the Department of Education. Specific benchmarks reported in numerical values called Composite Performance Index (CPI) are provided to each district to allow schools to evaluate their own growth, as well as to compare their progress with other school districts. The graphs below illustrate the significant student achievement gains on MCAS for BRCPS third graders over the last four years.
