6th Grade Eportfolio

By the end of their 6th year at BRCPS, all sixth grade students are required to produce an electronic portfolio that demonstrates:

  1. achievement in all subject areas,
  2. achievement of 21st century technology skills and knowledge, and
  3. an understanding of confidence, character, and citizenship.

BRCPS Class of 2010 6th graders presented their eportfolios at the Apple Store on Boylston Street.

An eportfolio is an electronic portfolio, or a narrated movie, of each 6th grade student’s best academic work, citizenship activities, and career and college goals. From start to finish, the students work hard taking and editing photos, writing and recording their scripts, and selecting music and sound effects for their movies. Every student learns valuable media making skills while expressing themselves through the use of imagery, music, and voice in creative software tools.

At the end of the project, the classmates vote on the top ten movies to represent their class at the Annual Eportfolio Showcase. In 2009 and 2010, the Showcase was hosted by the Apple Store on Boylston Street, where students shared their movies to an audience of friends, families, and community members, and were recognized with special awards such as Best Sound and Best Editing. In 2011, the 6th graders showed and celebrated their movies at the first annual sTem Fair assembly at the Boston Renaissance Charter Public School, on June 9, 2011. Congratulations to ALL of our winners and to ALL of our 6th graders for their participation in the Eportfolio project!

At graduation, every 6th grader receives a BRCPS-branded flash drives loaded with their Class’ Eportfolios and digital Yearbook.
